I’ve been so excited all morning and sleep deprived due to my excitement, biggest, happiest thing to (hopefully) happen for me in a very long time. Something I never would have thought would happen. In fact I’m keeping it a secret because I’m so afraid I’ll jinx it.
Then my dad called to tell me my aunt finally passed away this morning and now I just feel like I’m going to vomit. What a horrible collision of emotions and situations.
By the way, what exactly was your intended purpose for the “musician review” chapters in American Psycho, where you discuss in “excruciating detail” pop music groups such as Huey Lewis and the News and Genesis?
“I thought it was interesting. When I was writing American Psycho I felt like I was writing an epic issue of a men’s magazine. It was about grooming products and fashion and restaurants. It was about sex and a guy’s girlfriends, and it needed reviews. I like music a lot and I tried to figure out what Bateman’s tastes where. I liked the transitions from hardcore violent stuff, to four pages on Genesis’ career. It seemed to go along with how Bateman was thinking.”
I am so thankful that Bret Easton Ellis exists and is who he is.
